Fusion Metadata Registry persists all date and time values in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) format (also known as GMT or Zulu format). It is not possible to make FMR display or store times in your local timezone. The rationale for this is to ensure deterministic behavior and interoperability across distributed systems on a global scale.

When machine-to-machine communication is required, UTC provides a consistent and unambiguous time reference, eliminating discrepancies caused by local time zones, daylight saving adjustments, or regional formatting. This ensures systems interpret timestamps uniformly, regardless of geographic location.

Datetime values follow the ISO-8601 standard, where:

  • Components are ordered from the most significant (year) to the least significant (seconds)
  • The date and time are separated by the "T" character
  • The string ends with the letter "Z"

An example is: 2024-12-31T23:59:59Z which represents the last second of the year 2024.
